OUR SUSTAINABILITY
COMMITMENTS
Considering Climate
We’ve reduced our carbon footprint by optimizing our production and packaging.
ACUVUE® is committed to leading the conversation and driving meaningful action on sustainability. We are determined to continue tackling key issues that affect us all, from recycling and reducing our carbon footprint, to optimizing our packaging.
From reducing the energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions required in the manufacturing process of ACUVUE® OASYS 1-Day (90 pack) by 12%, to cutting the carbon footprint of transporting contact lenses by 13% by switching from air to ocean freight, and reducing the paper used in our ACUVUE® OASYS 1-Day contact lens (90 Pack) packaging by 60% (for product manufactured in the USA). Moreover, in our manufacturing process, 90% of our raw materials are recycled on location at our Vision Care manufacturing sites.
But it doesn’t stop there. We’re proud that our products have received global sustainability recognition as well, including ACUVUE® OASYS 1-Day which was named Product of the Year by Environmental Leader in 2017 for its sustainable packaging. All our contact lens packaging (box and leaflet) is also certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).
We’ll continue to demand more from ourselves too, as we work towards our sustainable vision for the future and creating a healthier planet.
You can recycle the box your contact lens comes in and instruction guide. Your reusable container and solution bottle can also be put in your recycling bin.
The lens cup is made of recyclable material, however, recycling it may not always be possible due to its small size. Please check with your local recycling centre about their capabilities. To recycle the cup, make sure you separate the foil first, and throw it into the trash.
You cannot yet recycle the lens itself as it is so small. Always throw them out with your trash and never flush them down a sink or toilet.
Sterile plastic packaging means that your contact lenses remain well-hydrated, in shape, unblemished, and germ-free. After all, they’re relied upon to correct vision in two of your most precious assets: your eyes.
